Loathed, Never Beloved by Vultures

Poison myself until it circles the earth.
Has it found you yet, my love?

How is it that while I am loathed by the vultures,
you are so beloved by them?
You roam unceasingly scavenging for the freshly fallen.
You kneel among the vultures,
consuming crimson carrion.
The gravel digs into your skin,
Where it once dug into mine.

The bones you left behind are
buried deep in the soil where
our dreams of a life together
crashed from the blissful sky.

Your words, your actions—
Do you feel shame for them?
Or you mistook them for the antidote.

You could have had all my limbs,
but you wanted the masses.

Now you are under the weight
of all the carcasses you desired.

Though my body is mortal,
once this soul disintegrates
the airborne poison will haunt everyone.
But possess you.
