After the Flood

The waters recede, a muddy stain,
Upon the fields, a sorrowful reign.
The sun ascends, a hesitant gleam,
Awakening life from a watery dream.
The scent of damp earth, a sweet despair,
A landscape reshaped, beyond compare.

The willow weeps, her branches low,
A silent witness to the overflow.
The river sighs, a murmuring sound,
Where homes once stood, now hollowed ground.
But even in ruin, a beauty resides,
In resilience shown, where hope still hides.

No longer the torrent's furious might,
But gentle whispers in the fading light.
The birds return, their melodies clear,
Dispelling shadows, calming all fear.
A single wildflower, bravely unfurled,
A tiny testament to a reborn world.

The debris settles, a tangled mess,
Of splintered wood and shattered caress.
Yet in the wreckage, a chance to rebuild,
A stronger foundation, skillfully willed.
To learn from the deluge, the lessons it gave,
And build a future, courageous and brave.

For after the flood, a quiet grace,
A cleansed perspective, a different pace.
A deeper connection to earth and to sky,
A gratitude born as the tears dry.
To cherish the moments, the simple and true,
And start anew, with a vibrant view.

So let the rain fall, let tempestuous winds blow,
For even in chaos, new seeds will grow.
And after the flood, when the waters subside,
A stronger spirit will bloom deep inside.
A poem of rebirth, a hopeful refrain,
*After the Flood*, born from sorrow and pain.
