My Therapist Tells Me I Should Make a Home Within My Body
so I imagine my home is my body.
When I take a stranger home,
I am taking them to my body.
My body is a place I fill
with only beautiful things. My body
is an investment. I care for my body
like I care for my home.
Every woman with a mirror know what home-
sickness feels like. Knows what it’s like to want
to move into someone else’s body.
Imagine if women had house-
warmings every time we changed bodies.
If bleeding and not bleeding meant a home-
coming party. If friends came to help us settle
into our new bodies. Imagine your body
as a home with wide open windows. A soft,
warm light over everything. A place
you can’t wait to go. Body sweet
body. Home
sweet home.
