Heed The Night
After "We in Winter-Woods"
the red ring of winter watches
us walk across the wooded field
side by side staring into dark
nothing but a birdless sky above
our heads ear to ear heed
whispers waxing in our soft steps
stark dead trees stand
guard against hard-pressed
winds weaving our circumstance
we heap bits of broken bark
for night-fire in hopes of hiding
beneath a silent blanket of soot
